Overview:
Melanotan II (MT-2) is a synthetic analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH).
It was originally developed to investigate melanocortin receptor pathways involved in pigmentation and other physiological processes.
Mechanism of Action:
- Agonist at melanocortin receptors (primarily MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R)
- Stimulates melanin production in melanocytes
- Influences appetite and sexual function via central melanocortin pathways
